FAU Receives $1 Million Gift for AI LabThe Rubin and Cindy Gruber Sandbox will house the Charles E. Schmidt College of Science’s Machine Perception and Cognitive Robotics Lab (MPCR) within the S.E. Wimberly Library at FAU’s Boca Raton campus. The gift will support renovating a 3,400-square-foot resource center designed to cater to students from across the University. Meet Astro, FAU's Smart RoboDog!Using deep learning and artificial intelligence (AI), scientists from Florida Atlantic University ’s Machine Perception and Cognitive Robotics Laboratory ( MPCR ) in the Center for Complex Systems and Brain Sciences at FAU’s Charles E. Schmidt College of Science are bringing to life one of about a handful of these quadruped robots in the world. Technology Senses Parkinson's Patients' Medication ResponseResearchers from Florida Atlantic University ’s College of Engineering and Computer Science have developed an innovative way to automatically and reliably detect and monitor medication ON and OFF states in PD patients. They have combined an algorithm and sensor-based system that detects ON and OFF state patterns in PD patients using two wearable motion sensors placed on the patient’s most affected wrist and ankle. Algorithm Steers Catheters to Target for Treating Atrial FibrillationResearchers from Florida Atlantic University ’s College of Engineering and Computer Science and collaborators have developed the first algorithm that can locate patient-specific ablation targets within the atria that does not require specialized catheters or 3D electro-anatomic maps of the heart.
